Malek Maktabi: Passion Has Led the Way
Posted on March 20, 2009

Malek Maktabi tries to spend his money wisely and believes that determination will make him get there. The LBCI executive producer, whose work record has taken interviews to new heights, stresses justice should be the guiding factor in people’s lives.

“Nothing can move me more than a child's tear.”

What kills you most?

Injustice. I firmly believe that all people should be treated the same.

What gets you up in the morning?

Ambition. A new day is waiting for me. Lots of things should be done. 24 hours are not enough for me.

What happened to your childhood dreams?

Some of them were realized.
On the other hand, I am in the process of realizing my pending dreams.

What distinguishes you from others?

My determination: I have the will; I will surely find a way.

What do you need most?

Health.

Do you think that anyone can become an artist?

Every person has his own talent that distinguishes him/her from the other. Since art is subjective, we are all artists in our own way.

Where are you from?

Although I have always enjoyed travelling around, Lebanon remains my motherland.

Do you feel your situation is enviable?

My situation fits my own expectations. I hope that everyone is up to his or her expectations as well.

What have you given up on?

I have given up on a career path that I was not passionate about.

What do you do with your money?

I try to spend it ... wisely!

What moves you?

Nothing can move me more than a child's tear.

What are your favourite pleasures?

Being with my loved ones.

What would you like to receive for your birthday?

A ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!’

Name three living artists that you hate most?

I might prefer some artists to others but hate is a big word for me.

What or whom do you defend?

I would defend a person’s right to express himself though I may disagree with his thoughts – or as Voltaire puts it: “I may not agree with what you say but I will defend your right to say it.”

What are you capable of refusing?

I refuse anything that I am not convinced of.

What are you capable of doing in the name of love?

Anything.

What are you blamed for?

Being always busy and spending too much time working at the expense of my personal life.

What does art bring to you?

Curiosity, moments of reflection and sometimes satisfaction.

Who do you think you are?

A man trying to make it.

What drives you nuts?

Failure.

Write your own epitaph?

The Epitaph depicts how I will be remembered not how I will remember people. So it is not mine to write.

Under what form would you like to come back as?

Exactly the same form I came the first time.

What was the last book you read?

Moi Nojoud, 10 ans, divorcée.

Do you like animals?

You mean the band from the 1960s?

Why did you choose TV?

TV chose me. I felt drawn to it.

Who is the woman of your dreams? honestly!

She knows it... The one I am with now...

What is your philosophy in life?

Live and let live.

What is the most important thing in your life?

Personal and professional achievements and being a successful man.

Talk to an alien- or draw an alien.

I will talk to an alien and draw one when I see one. If you know some, I'd be glad to host them on my next show!
