Figaro Group has acquired the weekly magazine Gala, previously owned by Prisma Media Group, a subsidiary of Vivendi.
In its 30 years of existence, Gala has established itself as a reference in the world of magazine press. Its unique editorial concept combines the coverage of Celebrities news with fashion and beauty content. Gala sells 123,000 copies on a weekly basis, reaching 1.1 million readers. Also, during the Cannes Film Festival, Gala's editorial team publishes Gala Croisette, a daily newspaper in both French and English, distributed in 15,000 copies.
Under the leadership of Mathias Gurtler, Editor-in-Chief, Gala has also experienced significant growth in Digital. Its website has an audience of 12 million unique visitors, ranked 4th in women magazines websites. Gala also has a strong presence on social media, with 1 million followers on Facebook, 650,000 on Instagram, and over 9 million on TikTok.
Figaro Group will welcome around 70 new team members in early 2024, who will join at both “the Abbé Groult” premises and at Rue de Provence in the MEDIA.FIGARO building.
This acquisition strengthens Figaro Group’s position in the key market of women press and websites. By combining Gala's strength with the other women assets of the Group, such as Madame Figaro and Le Journal des Femmes, Figaro Group will reach 52% of the female population in France. This synergy will significantly enhance its advertising offering.
“I am excited about the arrival of Mathias Gurtler and his team. The successful transformation of Gala under his leadership over the years will continue. I am confident that Gala's notable success in the Digital and Social Media will be a source of inspiraon for all our teams,” commented Marc Feuillée, Managing Director, Figaro Group.
