In its latest step toward brand modernization, Gandour—one of the Middle East’s most iconic heritage brands—has unveiled a refined Arabic wordmark, reinforcing its legacy while sharpening its visual presence for today’s markets. The revamp was led by Tarek Atrissi Design Studio, known for its deep expertise in Arabic typography and bilingual brand systems.
Building on Gandour’s rich visual heritage that dates back to 1857, Amsterdam-based Tarek Atrissi's Design Studio has unveiled a refined Arabic wordmark.
As part of its ongoing brand evolution, the core brief was clear: restore the authenticity of Gandour’s original Arabic calligraphy while improving legibility and ensuring visual harmony with the existing Latin wordmark. The challenge lay in navigating the bilingual dynamics of Arabic and Latin typography—preserving the soul of the calligraphic script without sacrificing clarity or contemporary relevance.
Past redesigns often compromised either the cultural essence or the typographic balance. Atrissi Design’s approach was more surgical: revisiting Gandour’s historical visual archives and engaging in extensive sketching and design exploration to carefully redraw the wordmark. The result introduces fresh proportions, controlled rhythm, and intentional contrast—embracing the calligraphic richness rather than flattening it.
Today, the updated bilingual wordmark allows both scripts to coexist—distinct in personality, yet perfectly aligned as one unified brand system.
In a region where bilingual branding often feels like a compromise, Atrissi Design delivers a reminder that mastery lies in the details. The new identity—A masterclass in Arabic logo refinement — is now actively rolling out across product packaging, retail displays, event signage, and brand communications.
Atrissi Design Studio proves once again that respecting heritage doesn’t mean freezing it in time—it means knowing exactly how to let it breathe.
