VML has named Kalpesh Patankar, widely known as Kal in the industry, as its Group Chief Creative Officer for India. With nearly 20 years of experience, Patankar joins from his previous role as Chief Creative Officer at Leo Burnett Dubai.
Known for shaping agencies into globally recognized creative forces, Patankar is no newcomer to VML, having previously served as CCO at VMLY&R Dubai. His tenure at both VMLY&R Dubai and Leo Burnett Dubai brought remarkable achievements, from securing major business wins to producing groundbreaking work that set industry benchmarks.
His leadership has been instrumental in earning top honors, including “MEA Agency of the Decade” at Cannes Lions, multiple “Agency of the Year” titles at Dubai Lynx and MENA Effies, and the prestigious recognition of Advertising Creative Person of the Year.

Patankar has built a reputation for redefining creative standards, consistently delivering bold and innovative work for major global brands like Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Harvey Nichols, Land Rover, and Colgate. His impact extends beyond his campaigns, as his work has influenced creatives worldwide. Recognized for his expertise, he has also led juries at renowned industry awards, including Cannes Lions, D&AD, Andys, and ADFEST.

He will be based in VML's Mumbai office, where he will report directly to Debbi Vandeven, Global CCO of VML, and Babita Baruah, CEO of VML India. Collaborating closely with Paul Nagy, APAC CCO, his focus will be on strengthening VML’s creative reputation both within the APAC region and globally.
